I’m going to do something I’ve never done before or have ever considered doing. I’m going to do a “writing challenge.” I recently started following a blogger who has been writing a blog post every day as part of a 30-day challenge (read her lovely blog here, I have enjoyed her posts).
This sounds like a fun (and intimidating) idea to me. I’m not sure I have what it takes to actually do this- which proves to me that I MUST do it. Writing is one of my greatest passions, and so it’s time to push myself and engage the process in a new way. Instead of writing only when the inspiration strikes, I will dig down deep when I feel as though I’m empty. Instead of editing and refining for weeks on end, I will focus and learn to communicate myself as quickly and clearly as possible. I will have to let go of perfectionism, for I do not have the time. I will write in the moment, fresh and raw. It’s terribly cliche to say this, but absolutely true: this is not about the destination, it’s about the journey. It’s less about producing a great piece of writing, but more about discovering myself through the process.
Exciting and terrifying all at once!
Rather than doing this challenge during a calender month, I’ve decided to write with a full cycle of the moon. Most people who set intentions with the moon start with the new moon. But I don’t feel like waiting another 2 weeks, I want to start right away with this full moon. I like the idea of going from fullness to fullness. I’m also entering the ovulation phase of my cycle, which drags up lottts of feelings for me. It’s my “full” time. I think it’s a good time to start.
Here’s what I predict: I will begin with overly emotional pieces that flow and flame, full of passion and conviction, and then my hormones will start falling and I will start taking a more practical, and perhaps more cynical, approach to matters.
Basically, this is going to be a reflection of my hormonal roller-coaster ride. It should be interesting…
All of these posts will have their own category, “from one full moon to another”. I will probably publish a few other posts this month that I have been working on lately, but those will not apply to this writing challenge. Every day I will write something new, starting today.
Let the adventure begin!
